Hope for Opelousas began in
2008 with a vision to provide children and families in St. Landry the support
and love needed to reach their full potential and to inspire others to do the
same. We started with passion but with little experience. After two years of
work we were ready to expand and work with more kids, so wrote our first grant
to the Stuller Family Foundation. The response we got from this request was a
No, with some feedback. We were told that they loved what we were doing but
challenged us to capture data to better tell the story of our impact. That No,
and the timely feedback given set us on a course to grow into the organization
we are today.
We were able complete that
expansion and began tracking data. The following year we stayed in communication
and invited the Stuller Family Foundation Executive Director to come and see
our progress. Over the last 6 years we have received multiple grants from the
SFF for data tracking support, technology upgrades, and our high school
expansion but the thing that is most valuable that we’ve gained is a
relationship. We have become better at all we do from the feedback and
encouragement we’ve received from this partnership.
Through this relationship
we’ve been given the platform to share our mission and story with high school
juniors and seniors across Acadiana through the Junior Philanthropy Classes.
These young people are our future and these classes are teaching them the ABC’s
of good works done right.
The Stuller Family
Foundation is not a clearing house for cash but an organization working to
change Acadiana on the most important fronts. Not only supporting and helping
develop organizations and causes but inspiring the next generation to do the
same and do it well.
